Meet the Elders

Laura Sitting Eagle
Laura was Born February 8th, 1946. Her parents are Phillip and Lilly Many Bears. Laura has been a member of Prairie Chicken Society and owner of an Otter design tipi with her husband Gerald. Laura has also been apart of the Calgary Stampede since the 50's. Laura is a promident elder in the Siksika community who strongly supports cultural and language revitaization. She also sits on several Siksika department boards, such as, Siksika Prevention and Intervention, Siksika Health and Siksika Headstart program, early Childhood for young parents to name a few.

Gerald Sitting Eagle
Gerald Sitting was born June 20th, 1948, under a wagon. Yes, you read correctly under a wagon. Today's generation seem to think and believe that tipi and ancient ceremonies were a distant past. Gerald is an individual who has become witness to change on the global scale from running water to computer chips. Gerald was a member of the Prairie Chicken Society, Brave Dog Society and helper to many ceremonies in the Siksika community. He has also owned an Otter design tipi with his wife Laura Sitting Eagle. Gerald sits on several community event committees, Siksika department boards and supporter of cultural and language revitalization programs. Gerald was also on Siksika Chief & Counical for many years.

Clarence 'Agar' Wolfleg
Clarence 'Agar' Wolfleg is a Veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces. Clarence was born in 1948. Serviced in the Canadian military after high school. He served with the Royal Canadian Horse artillary, which included the United Nation Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus and NATO Forces Contintial Europe. He later became a Blackfoot Tribal Police Officer. He served 10 terms on Siksika Chief & Council. He was also a member of the Brave Dog Society and former member of the Horn Society. Clarence has received several awards and honorary degrees in his work for Siksika Cultural and language revitalization.

Roger Prairie Chicken
Roger is a prominent elder in Siksika country. Roger is a member of Kainai Blood Tribe (Member of the Blackfoot Confederacy) and Siksika Nation. He is an elder to the Horn society and other sacred societies of Siksika. Roger supports and advocates for culture and language revitalization. He has been a spiritual leader for more than 25 years. He served as a Tribal Police officer and crisis councillor. Roger is not only a fluent teacher but also a person of positivity and forgiveness. Roger is also a strong supporter of reconciliation and growth for reconnection. Roger has been married to Charlene Plume/Prairie. As a couple they exemptilfy the definition of a union.

Charlene is a very predominant leader, elder, advisor and straight-up headdress maker in Blackfoot country. She is a member of Kainai Blood tribe (member of the Blackfoot Confederacy. Charlene is a strong advocate for language revitalization. She has been an spiritual elder for more than 25 years. Charlene and her Husband (Roger) became one the youngest couple to lead the Horn Society. Charlene's name has grown through her hard work in Kainai community and her work with the traditional Blackfoot Headdress. She recently made and helped transfer a straightup headdress for Oscar winning actress Lily Gladstone.

Jonathan Red Gun
Jonathan is a respected elder and member of the Siksika Nation. He served as an RCMP for than a decade. Jonathan currently develops youth and disability programs for urban Indigenous population. Jonathan is also a Horn grandfather with extensive knowledge of Siksika Ways of knowing. Jonathan is an advocate for Siksika language and culture revitalization.

Rod Scout
Rod is a prominent leader in Siksika Language revitalization. Rod is a member of the Siksika Nation. He served as a police officer for the Siksika Nation and a Fish and Wildlife officer. Rod has a Master's in Siksika language and culture. For his work in Siksika language and culture, he received an honourary Doctorate from the South Alberta Institute of Technology. Rod is also a well-respected and prominent elder/grandfather to the Siksika Horn society.

Darrell McDonald
Darryl MacDonald is a member of the Siksika and Kainai Nations. He is married to Mona MacDonald. Darryl has raised 5 daughter's and numerous grandchildren. Darryl is also a successful businessman. He has also served as a U.S. Marine. Darryl was raised by his gransparents who have taught him the Siksika language. He is one of a handful of fluent speakers who can speak the old language. Darryl is also a strong supporter in the revitalization of the Siksika language and culture.
